So much yellow

I’m not sure how I feel about yellow roses. However, this didn’t stop me buy a whole bouquet the other day – my husband even asked me why I bought Easter flowers for Christmas (yellow = Easter). I said because I want some yellow roses on my blog 🙂

Usually roses are so sharp in pictures, but I still prefer to have a shallow depth of field for a little bit of smoothness. I’ll try a very sharp one next time.

The magic of bokeh

It is exactly one year ago that I was trying to figure out, right after I bought my camera, how can I get those bubbles of light in the background. When I learnt what bokeh was and how I could do it it was already too late to take advantage of all the Chrismas lights. This is my revenge 🙂

Merry Christmas!

I got a speedlight (SB-700) for my birthday (in July) and I refused to use it – until today (I’m a big fan of natural light). Now I feel like a kid who just got a new toy, I’m totally fascinated. 🙂

For me, there is nothing that reminds me more of Christmas than the smell of oranges and mandarines. That’s because when I was a child, in communist Romania, we could only have oranges during Christmas time.

Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy the simple things…

Gratitude

It’s been one year since I bought my first professional camera. Thank you everyone who encouraged and supported me along the way, it’s been a beautiful year. I encourage everyone to explore whatever they feel their calling is, there is no feeling like doing what you love and getting better at it every single day.

Fireworks

There is a first time for everything. This was the first time I photographed fireworks (with a professional camera). I wasn’t sure exactly what settings I should use, but I ended up using an ISO between 400 and 800, an aperture between 9 and 16, shutter speed between 0.5 and 0.8 sec. I’m quite happy with the result, except the huge crane that shows in some of the pics (it is the biggest crane in the world, I heard!). These were (some of) the fireworks during the UAE’s national day.

Dubai skyline (let’s get technical)

Yesterday I went treasure hunting, with my two cameras (and the tripod). It’s not very often we see clouds on the skies of Dubai, so it seemed like a perfect time for getting some nice pictures. It was also UAE’s national day, so I had my day off. Below are just few of the pictures I took, and I am particularly interested in comparing the first two pics, taken in the same conditions, with different settings and different cameras. I have to say that from all the photos, I prefer the ones taken with the Fuji. It would had been interesting if I had a filter for my Nikon lens, so I could expose it longer.

Cities, how do they make us feel?

I dreamt a few nights ago that I was in a building so hight that I got really scared of the hight (in real life, I might be scared of many things, but not of hight). Often I dream skyscrapers are crumbling away. I wonder what that means, how much living in cities built on this scale affects us. Are we, human beings feeling, subconsciously, really small? How much higher can we go and at what cost for our human dimension?

Until I find out how do they make us feel as humans, as a pedestrian photographer I have a hard time finding the right angle to capture these urban giants. 🙂

Slice and squeeeeze

I took these pictures a while ago, after I bought all the possible citrus I found in the supermarket. The result, besides the below photos, was a delicious flavoured water. 🙂
