One morning in Marfa, Tx
Singing birds, music
Light spills on the cold pavements
Oh, glorious sun.
This week’s photo challenge, Opposites, inspired me to look back to the images I made in Marfa, West Texas one glorious early morning. It also inspired me to write this ‘almost’ haiku. If there is something precious I have learnt in Marfa, was to embrace the ‘dark side’ of my images. We are often afraid of dark, underexposed negative space in our images, and try to fix that in post processing, but to me this was exactly the message that morning was sending – light and darkness are one, they exist in real life, they reveal and hide, they warm us up and cool us down, they must co-exist.
Piano music could be heard from this chapel, while the sun was raising above town.
And just to prove a point, a sunset in Marfa:
