Before and after the storm

Yesterday I experienced the first stormy rain in Dallas, Texas and it was as unpredictable as it was intense. After a couple of hours of thunder, and wind, and rain there was no trace of clouds on the sky.

Metallic shades

Even though I am officially now living in Dallas, Texas, the first photos after this mini break are still from Dubai. I came across these pictures taken just few days before I left and I liked the metallic look. All taken with my Fujifilm x100s (which I’ve been having a love/hate relationship with lately). We are all good now 🙂

Wintery

I’m on the way out from the sandpit to a far away but sunny place, and here I am posting pictures of snow. Why not?

I’ll be absent for a little while, but I’ll be back with new forces. 🙂

Let it be dark, and paint it with light

Symmetry and light

Today I visited the Blue Souk in Sharjah for the first time (after more than seven years living in the UAE). Although I was not there for photography, this space caught my eye.

They have their mojo on

A couple of days ago I’ve been asked by my boss (everyone knows I have a passion for photography!) to take my camera with me to the office. We needed photos of some of my colleagues for a farewell card. I got my little mighty Fuji x100s and waited for the right light to capture these beauties. These pictures didn’t end up on the card (not the right format) but everyone was happy with the result and that’s nothing that makes me happier. Australia, India, France, New Zealand, Kazakhstan (and we have six more nationalities represented in the office), don’t you love the diversity of Dubai’s workplace? The picture with the ring was taken the next day but is part of the same story.

Is black and white more powerful than colour?

I think I officially entered a black and white phase. Few days ago one of my colleagues received a beautiful bouquet of pastel flowers (my favourite kind of flowers) and the only thing I wanted to do is to take black and white macros. Usually we have a beautiful sunset light in the office but I missed that so I had to take the pictures on artificial light (from above), at a high ISO and wide aperture. I shot in black and white and 1:1 directly in the camera (FujiX100S) but I liked more the result when I converted them to B&W in Lightroom. I think black and white is more powerful than colour. It’s like the difference between radio and TV: when you only listen, your imagination works harder; when you can listen and see in the same time, the brain gets lazier. What do you think?

Thank you

A little bit of colour and a big thank you to everyone who is encouraging me in this journey. It matters.

The last snow

It took me some time to decide how I want to use these pictures, since it was the first time I photographed snow. I knew I have to overexpose, but I had no idea how they will come out. Well they came out overexposed, which means a lot of the moody detail in the sky was lost. I left the exposure as it was for the first three photos, and I brought it down in Lightroom for the fourth, to get a little bit of that detail back.

The pictures were taken at the beginning of March, in Romania.

Never underestimate the look of an eggplant / aubergine

I was thinking to start an “everyday objects are beautiful challenge” but really, looking back at my pictures, I have so many of them already that I realised I don’t need a challenge to keep going. These photos are taken one day when I wanted to test my speedlight and for that I opened the fridge :). Photos taken with 40mm Nikkor lens. DSC_3850-3DSC_3855
